“Tootles” (old gold)

Description

Carved plaster sculpture (statuette) finished in old gold, named by Elizabeth, as known both in family lore and from the 29 November 1910 letter accompanying the sending of an assortment of 35 pieces of her seventeen “best studies” to Ye Arts & Crafts Shop in Honolulu, Hawaii, including “3 Tootles (Statuete).” She does not state that piece was finished in old gold but does mention having “given a touch of old gold” to some others of those pieces, adding, “it makes them more attractive to the general public.”
